Thank You to Our Sponsors
The 2020 MAPA Annual Conference was a tremendous success. The conference was held January 6-8 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia, Missouri. A sold-out exhibit hall and slate of amazing presentations led to another great event. This year we also celebrated 30 Years! Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association was incorporated in March of 1990. Thirty years later, we continue to grow and build on the vision and goals that were implemented by the founding members of the association.
As tradition, we began the conference with Casino Night Monday evening. The next morning started off with the annual business meeting, followed by our Keynote Speaker, Brandon “Manson” Williams, Afterburner. Flawless Execution, Task Saturation and many other topics were discussed during Brandon’s keynote.
After the conclusion of Tuesday morning’s presentations, we moved into the exhibit hall for the Annual Paving Awards. This year eighteen projects were awarded along with two new Safety Innovation Awards. There were two companies that received this award: Pace Construction and Fred Weber, Inc. We were joined by five MAPA-REF scholarship recipients during lunch as well.

Governor Mike Parson joined us following lunch and spoke about two major areas needing to be addressed in Missouri: Workforce Development and Infrastructure. These are two key issues that affect our industry and we greatly appreciate Governor Mike Parson’s leadership in addressing the areas.
We received updates from many different organizations along with MAPA Committees both Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Asphalt Pavement Alliance
- National Asphalt Pavement Association
- MoDOT and MoDOT Field Office
- University of Missouri
- Missouri S&T
- MAPA Committees: Technical, Safety, Emerging Leaders
Other topics presented during the conference included:
- Utilizing Drones in the Industry
- Balanced Mid Design
- Women of Asphalt
- Commercially Useful Function
- Medical Marijuana in the Workplace
Dinner, MAPA-REF Raffle and PAC Auction closed out Tuesday evening. We would like to thank those who donated, bid and purchased these items at the PAC Auction. This year brought in $15,055.
We also held a Breakout Session – Business Development and Marketing on Wednesday morning. Dan Staebell (APA) and Monica Pitts (MayeCreate) presented during this session.
We would like to thank the Sponsors, Exhibitors, and Attendees for joining us and celebrating 30 years at the Annual Conference.
Mark you calendars for next year’s conference which will be held at the Holiday Inn Executive Center on January 11-13, 2021.
