Asphalt Plant Tour
Topic Description:
Most of us see asphalt pavements every day. Many of us work in industries directly related to asphalt pavements. But how many of us truly understand how asphalt is produced much less had the opportunity to witness exactly how rock and oil are perfectly blended to form the worlds most cost effective and sustainable pavement? The Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association would like to invite you to this interactive behind the scenes tour of how our pavements go from quarry to the road.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand asphalt and quarry operations
- Learn about the different types of asphalt plants
- Learn the difference in mix types and designs
- Understand the role of an onsite asphalt lab, and how the production of each type works
- Learn about Recycle Asphalt Pavements (RAP) and other recycle materials
- Understand the opportunity to incorporate new technology into mix designs and they effect production
- Understand how loading and delivery operations take place

Parking: Park in the parking lot by the main office, located across from the asphalt plant.
Please Note that proper safety equipment is required for this tour. Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided for those who do not bring their own but if you have them, please bring them with you. Close toed shoes are required.
This tour will offer the opportunity to be interactive with some different mix types. Attendees will have the opportunity to safely interact with Hot Mix Asphalt using a shovel or other hand tools.
